About the Role
WQX is seeking a Quality Control Technician to support pipeline integrity, atmospheric coating, belowground coating, excavation, recoating, and station-related projects. The inspector will assist with coating inspection activities, documentation, surface preparation verification, environmental condition monitoring, coating application observation, and final inspection reporting.
This position is intended for a field-focused individual who understands coating quality requirements and can work closely with project supervision, coating crews, client representatives, and quality management personnel.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform coating inspection duties in accordance with project specifications, approved procedures, and applicable industry standards.
• Lead crew members to ensure quality of work is being performed.
• Complete various inspection forms and daily completion reports.
• Verify surface preparation, cleanliness, anchor profile, and environmental conditions prior to coating application.
• Monitor and document ambient conditions including temperature, relative humidity, dew point, and surface temperature.
• Observe coating mixing, application, cure times, recoat windows, and handling requirements.
• Conduct wet film thickness and dry film thickness checks as required.
• Assist with holiday detection, adhesion testing, visual inspections, and coating repair documentation.
• Complete daily coating inspection reports and required project quality documentation.
• Identify nonconforming work and communicate concerns to project supervision and quality management.
• Support safe work practices and participate in JSAs, toolbox talks, and Stop Work Authority expectations.
• Maintain inspection equipment in proper working condition and ensure calibration records are current.
• Work professionally with client inspectors, operations personnel, foremen, and project managers.
Requirements
Current NACE/AMP CIP Level I (min) certification.
Minimum 2 Years experience with pipeline, station, or belowground coating inspection required.
Basic understanding of surface preparation, abrasive blasting, coating application, cure requirements, and coating defects.
Ability to read and understand project specifications, coating product data sheets, safety data sheets, and inspection procedures.
Strong documentation and communication skills.
Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and travel to project locations as needed.
Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Ability to pass required drug and alcohol screening, background requirements, and client-specific site access requirements.
Preferred Experience
Two years’ experience related to pipeline integrity, recoating, atmospheric remediation, compressor station, or excavation project experience.
Familiarity with epoxy coatings, wax tape systems, urethane topcoats, and field-applied coating systems.
Experience with DFT gauges, surface profile gauges, dew point meters, holiday detectors, and adhesion testing equipment.
Veriforce, OQ, OSHA, or client-specific safety training.
Experience working around live pipeline facilities, compressor stations, or active right-of-way construction.
